Ninety Two . . . .

Raising Gods
By Stormcat

Hope is where they live, the bastion of power that runs contra-reason
somewhere between acquiescence to despair and quiet apathy facing
each of the 24 hours a day, each of the 7 days a week, each of the 52
dealing with overwhelming responsibility, unforgiving parenthood.

Where are all the ideal children, perfectly respectful, gifted physically,
emotionally, intellectually, full of grace, courageous, cunning, gentle,
confident yet humble, given to wisdom beyond experience, forgiving
of parental shortcomings . . . everything that they have never hoped.

Oh bother! ! ! Can't life be as easy as we expect it and hope it to be?
Children of children of children ad infinatum iteration inexhaustible
children of gods become gods who begat children of gods that become
gods ? ? ? or is that Gods? ? ? And what of the Gods of Gods? What next?

Who's on the top of this grand pyramid? Am I just another cycle in
eternal acquiescence?  Is there individuality or will I just be blended into
some infinite ethereal whole in process of its own spiritual evolution?
Perfection of the whole by perfection of parts and the parts of the parts.

Perhaps my rebellion, my questioning, indicates disqualification - or -
is that very awareness that which separates the masses? Will I continue?
The perfection of the soul seems inordinately distant in the context of
the daily tedium of raising children. But what if raising children is actually

training for raising Gods. . . .?

  2. You have posed a lot of interesting questions?
Where are all the ideal children?...That ends with each parent's generation who were much better than their own children at everything:)
Who's on top of the pyramid? Not people like me. We are not interested in grand architectural concepts or dynasties.
Individuality is non pc. Google is our god and will think for us. Will you continue? Not if you continue to post thought provoking posts like these that question the current societal mores.
Raising children is something you do and then you can think about it when it is done.
Your children will only be too happy to point out your short comings...well they will if you have raised them properly:)

  3. Stormcat, I empathize so much with this write. I'm at the other end of this parenting tunnel, where light is finally shining a bit. However, it was a long journey, with much teeth gnashing (I have 4 crowns to prove it...). Society and schools would have us believe that conformity is the goal. I know you do not believe thank goodness. Do not compare. Our children are not us, and you never know the future. My humble advice...Consistency, as much as is humanly possible and keep directions short and to the point without turning it into a tirade of past errors, those things helped me. And to paraphrase the Beatles, All you need is love... and patience...best of luck with this journey, who knows...they may be gods

    1. Sara, This was written as a result of my work in family court after encountering a family with 3 children each having a disability (either physical or mental) and the overwhelming daily burden the parents carried without relief. I was impressed that rather than help, the judicial and social services system actually made their lives more difficult. I couldn't help but wonder what possible universal purpose their burden could possibly serve. So if one believes that earth life is training for an afterlife in heaven . . .
